When is the best time to start a business? August 12, 2008

Posted by mona in : Business , trackback

I just talked to a friend who’s been slaving away for one company for the past thirty years.  (Yes, folks, he’s got loyalty awards to show for it.)  He’s looking forward to availing the early retirement program being offered to employees who have long served the company.  He says, aside from paying off all his outstanding loans, he’s dreaming of putting up a business with the money he is going to get.

The problem : He still does not know what business he wants to get into.
The bigger problem : Because of that, he sounds quite skeptical to risk his money because it might not work out.
The biggest problem : What will happen to a 49-year old man with no business, little or no money and no job?

In my opinion, getting into business should never be pushed off as some sort of a “retirement plan.”  Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t one who “retires from work” be relaxing and enjoying life?
If these people think that starting a business is easy and relaxing, I hope and pray they know what they are really talking about.  Isn’t it more logical to think that one must take advantage of his youth and start early so that when he reaches a certain age, he can “really retire and enjoy life”?

After that meeting I found myself thanking my lucky stars again that we went into business early on in life.  At 25, I know we weren’t really all that young and fresh.  But we still had room to make mistakes, learn from them, get back on our feet and start all over.
As for my friend…I wish him all the luck! ;)

Hi Mona! :)

In my opinion, if he had that spirit in starting a business, then go for it.. He just have to have a good business, a good plan, and a good execution.

I know a person who retired and received millions of pesos. She relaxed, enjoyed her retirement and all.. The thing is, the money is moving but in only one direction, and that is moving outwards. time will come that all of her money will be lost because nothing is coming in.

In short, Its better for him to still have some money rolling and an assurance that there is money coming in. :)

thnx,

Kris

Hi, Kris! ;) ;) ;) (my brain_man savior! hehehe!)
Kamusta ka na?
Thanks for dropping by!

Oo nga e…He just needs to have at least a plan man lang…kaso sa ngayon, he still doesn’t know what business to get into…panay spirit pero walang maliwanag na plano…

actually, naguguluhan na nga akong kausap yun e…hehehe! ang dami kasi nyang ideas sa utak kung anu-anong businesses (meaning, marami) ang “narinig o nabasa” na naman nyang bestseller…tapos tatanungin nya ako paulit-ulit kung okay ba o hindi…lagi ko na nga lang sinasabi, he has to go with what he knows or what he is really very interested in.

the reason why we are always in a healthy debate mode these past few days kasi he can’t seem to understand whenever i say that he has to start his business without focusing too much on the money he’s gonna earn…hindi naman daw sya pwedeng maglabas ng pera para sa business na hindi sya sigurado sa outcome…hindi nya maintindihan na may binabagayan din ang negosyo…what my work well for Juan might not work well for Pedro…ayaw nyang maniwala that the money will come if he loves and understands what he’s going to get into…nakaka-drain na nga makipagtalo…

ang conclusion ko na lang nga is he does not really know what he wants (yet) and even if he did, he’s afraid to take risks…sabi ko nga magaling pa ipasok na lang nya sa bank e…o kaya kumuha na lang sya nga prosperity funds…yun nga lang he might not get the returns that he wants kasi medyo slow ang growth dun…

and i guess, the big factor here really is AGE…parang wala na nga kasi syang masyadong room for mistakes…(hindi ko naman masabing “you cannot teach old dogs new tricks” kasi pareho lang naman kaming old dogs! nyahahahaha! :) )

ngek! naka-block na ang PBO dyan?!! okay i will tell them why you’re not active anymore…hmmmmm…if i know…kaya ka nawala kasi hindi na rin active si mitch….hehehe!

anyways, thanks so much for the advice…at least kahit dito nakaka-seek pa rin ako ng FREE advice from brain_man…hehehe!!!

Nagkakayayaan daw ng business synergy (kuno) cum halo-halo day yung ibang nasa T1 sa Razon’s…kung saan branch, hindi ko pa alam. sila linden, eric chaka si hanna yata ang nagpaplano…
